The Police Department continues to deploy three canine/handler teams. In the past year, the canine teams responded to 597 calls leading to 16 apprehensions and 41 narcotic searches. Neighboring agencies requested the assistance of our canine teams 25 times throughout the past year. The canine unit participated in 13 demonstrations at local schools and civic events. One of our canines, Ricky, retired in 2004 after eight years of dedicated service.
