Traffic UnitThe Santa Clara Police Department Traffic Unit is part of the Field Operations Division. The primary goal of the Traffic Unit is to reduce injury collisions through engineering, education and enforcement.

There are 17 members of the Traffic Unit. This includes two traffic investigators whose primary duties are to perform follow-up investigations on hit and run accidents, investigate major injury/fatal accidents, and file complaints for traffic-related crimes. There are 10 motorcycle officers assigned to the traffic unit. They are split into two teams.

The morning team works Monday through Friday 6:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and the evening team works Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. Their primary duties are to respond to collisions, investigate major injury accidents and fatalities, and enforcement of traffic laws.

There are two Community Services Officers assigned to the traffic unit. They are responsible for the enforcement of parking violations.
 
There are two motorcycle sergeants assigned to the traffic team. Their primary duties are to supervise the traffic team members, oversee the major injury/fatal accident investigations, and to take citizen complaints regarding traffic-related issues. The sergeants also work with city traffic engineers to solve traffic issues.
