Is my police report completed and how can I get a copy?
Most police reports are completed and ready to be released to involved parties within a week from the time the report is made. Of course, complexity of the case, ongoing investigation or other factors may delay the availability. Traffic Accident reports may take a little longer due to review requirements. The Public Records Act prohibits release of a report of a case under active investigation.

Who can obtain a copy of my police report?
Release of reports is limited to involved parties or their representatives. Your attorney or insurance company is your representative. People listed as victims, reporting parties or witnesses may obtain copies of reports not under active investigation. You cannot obtain your neighbor’s burglary report. The process starts when you complete a request for report release form at the Department.

We do not release reports to persons listed as suspects on the report. Those persons may obtain the report through the discovery process, through the District Attorney’s Office.

Reports may also be obtainable through the subpoena process.

Domestic Violence victims are entitled to a copy of their police report at no charge.
